HOW TO CREATE GOOD PAYING JOBS IN THE WEST WHILE ADDING TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO THE WORLD ECONOMY.
Most experts believe that the West is experiencing an economic crisis. Though, we were able to recover from previous economic downturns, this time around, we may never bounce back. Our only chance of getting over this crisis would be in unleashing the forces of imagination, innovation and creativity. Basically, we have to show our commanders in chief how they can also be our job providers in chief. Failing to restore prosperity could spell the end of The Western Civilization. Here are some clear and decisive proposals designed to remedy the situation.
Begin the process of replacing fossil fuel by using electricity and hydrogen as substitutes.
Use petro products to launch new national and international projects.
Implement a zero waste policy.
Deal with the traffic jams by building multi-level roads and highways. This is for the short term.
For the long term. Redesign and rebuild cities in such a way where there will be no need for personal vehicles.
Start working on futuristic projects designed to secure the survival of humanity beyond the collapse of the sun.
Introduce new concepts designed to better manage the world natural resources.
Use innovation to improve safety and efficiency in all modes of transportations.
Experiment with new concepts to secure safety against natural disasters.
Prepare now to handle the anticipated economic boom.
Those were the highlights, now the details.
1. Begin the process of replacing fossil fuel by using electricity and hydrogen as substitutes.
Almost every machine powered by dirty fuels can be converted to run on electricity or hydrogen. This conversion by itself would create millions of jobs worldwide. Generating enough electricity and producing enough hydrogen to replace dirty fuels would also create millions of jobs. When the ripple effects are included, the switch would result in hundreds of millions of jobs added on to the world job market. Even if some of these jobs would go to Asia, most of them would stay in the West. Actually, as we will see later on, these jobs would fall under a new category we are going to call strategic jobs. Since we would be using this term often, let me explain what it means. A strategic job is a job that cannot be imported. Think of law enforcers, mail delivery personnel, technicians such as plumbers and electricians, think of teachers, of care givers and the likes. Relatively speaking, they are all classified as high earners. The economy in the West will only grow by adding similar jobs to the labor market. It is for this reason that electrical vehicles should be powered by direct current using cables that connect to the electrical grid. With direct current, the jobs required to maintain the system will all be classified as strategic. In contrast, the same cannot be said about battery powered vehicles. The reason is simple: batteries can be built and assembled anywhere on the planet. It is strategic jobs, strategic careers, strategic industries and strategic philosophy that are going to revive the West. Clinging to the old economy is a losing battle. So, why bother.
Moreover, we are only assuming that battery powered vehicles may work. From my perspective, I see major problems with batteries. Just imagine if all vehicles were to run on batteries. Firstly, we will be having problems with all the waste. Secondly, as is, the price of high performance batteries is beyond the financial means of most people, imagine how much higher the cost will go when demands increase by many folds. Thirdly, no matter how advanced the technology, batteries will never be reliable. They will never perform as promoted by the industry. Finally, batteries are not as efficient as direct current. In that, batteries will be using more electricity to be charged and operated, and thus motorists will be saving substantially by powering their vehicles via direct current.
Though, this conversion may result in job losses in the oil industry, this negative impact should not stop us from making it happen. The reasons are many. Firstly, we will be running out of fossil fuel anyway, so, why wait until the last minute. Moreover, whether we convert or don’t, at the rate we are wasting oil, at some point, there are not going to be any oil left and the industry will have to shut down. The stakes are so high that playing the guessing game would be considered to be a criminal act not just negligence.
The point is, why wait until we are forced to change, as opposed to taking the initiative and cause the changes? The logistics associated with the conversion are going to be humongous. Even when they are done gradually and step by step. We are looking at decades before we see a total conversion. Installing the devices needed to generate electricity could take decades by itself. On top of that, the infrastructure for both the grid and canapé or hoods will have to be built. Add to that the challenge of building the new vehicles and figuring out how to introduce all the new technologies associated with them.
There is so much to do that one would anticipate to see airplanes powered by hydrogen and ships powered by direct current long before all automobiles and trucks are converted.
Secondly, as we continue our discussion, we will demonstrate how additional jobs can be created to compensate for the losses. Thirdly, how about the environment? Even the naysayers should not be so reckless. Simply put: one should not be gambling with the future of humanity. There is hardly any harm done by switching to clean energy. On the other hand, there will be a huge risk in allowing more fossil fuel burning. So, why take an unnecessary risk that could bring humanity to the brink of extinction? After all, the environmental revolution will be taking place, like it or not, through planning or by necessity. Of course, there are other reasons to support this conversion, however, for the time being, we’ll leave it at that.
2. Use petro products to launch new international projects.
Rubber can be used in combination with steel or other rigid metals to build different types of bridges and construct safer buildings. This method of construction would be very useful in places prone to earthquakes and hurricanes. For instance, with this combination, it would be possible to link continents by floating highways which could be called “oceanways”. This new type of engineering is very complex and requires many pages of illustration and explanation. We’ll go over the details in due course. Also, before jumping into any conclusion about waves and stability, hover machines would be used for transportation. Once built, oceanways could also be used for other purposes. Unlike typical roads, they would also make it possible to invent vehicles that can travel faster that jet planes. These new projects would require millions of people to build and maintain. Needless to say that the lion share of these jobs would awarded to Western Countries.
3. Implement a zero waste policy.
We keep talking about garbage. There should be no garbage. Remember: the only waste is wasted resources. In the West, governments are finding it impossible to see any growth in the economy. By instituting a zero waste policy, all labor required for this task would be classified as strategic jobs. From the way milk is sold to the method canned goods are produced, to every product sold anywhere, it would be possible to find ways where the products can be reused and thus eliminating trash. Milk handling is a good example. In the old days, milk was sold in glass bottles; going back to this method should be very easy. The same with soft drinks. We are not looking at disposable glass containers; we are looking at reusable ones. I am sure the industries involved would be vehemently opposed to these changes, however, the job of a political leader is not to accommodate multinational corporations, his or her most important task is to create jobs and grow the economy. At any rate, anyone who opposes this proposal should look at the brewery industry in Canada. If they can handle washing their bottles and reusing them, other industries should not have any trouble duplicating the same process that is designed to eliminate waste. Not only would such a policy create more jobs and help the environment, more importantly, it would be very helpful in term of public health. For, despite all the assurances, tin cans, plastic bottles and bags are still not considered 100% safe by many scientists and health experts.
4. Deal with the traffic jams by building multi-level roads and highways. This is for the short term.
Solve the traffic jam problem. Stop adding more lanes, more highways and freeways. Expand the existing roads by going higher not wider. Use the new technology we talked about earlier. You can build all types of multilevel streets by using the same technology proposed earlier. The oil industry would be well advised to embrace these changes. In fact, by fully participating in such projects, the otherwise wasted crude could become a permanent asset. This is one way of compensating for the job losses in the oil industry. Millions of new strategic jobs would be needed to achieve this goal. With more roads, it would be possible to design a better mass transport system. For instance, there will be more lanes available for busses which will allow for options for all types of commuters. These projects will help the economy in the short term.
5. For the long term. Redesign and rebuild cities in such a way where there will be no need for personal vehicles.
For the long term, we can start working on futuristic designs for our cities and towns. We know for a fact that many cities and towns are built in areas susceptible to earthquakes and hurricanes. Combining steel and rubber would result in constructing much safer structures of all sorts. This too will help the oil industry while adding millions of strategic jobs to the world economy.
6. Start working on futuristic projects designed to secure the survival of humanity beyond the collapse of the sun.
If we are to conquer space in a big way, we need huge airships unlike anything we have seen to date. We are talking about structures of colossal size that can hold over one million tons of water for example. The first step in reaching this goal would be in constructing a space elevator that soars one hundred to two hundred kilometers into the atmosphere. The benefits of such elevator are many. For instance, assembling could take place at the top of the tower housing the elevator. Materials and parts can be easily transported by using the space elevator. The risks to travelling humans would be minimal when compared to any other methods of space travelling. Of course these towers would be also built by using the same technology of combining rigid materials with rubber.
7. Introduce new concepts designed to better manage the world natural resources.
All over the world one can find areas and regions that are not fully utilized for growing food. With the world population expected to double by the end of this century, there will be a need for more food. Oceans are the best place to explore. For a fraction of what would cost to add land along coastal areas - the way the Dutch have been doing it for centuries- one could build floating islands all over the world. The best location would be close to the mouths of rivers. Water could be easily pumped for irrigation. Also, all over the oceans, other floating islands could be used to grow crops that can be irrigated by salt water. Moreover, by developing new ways to breed fish with the help of these floating devices, we can almost eliminate any negative impact the industry may have on the environment. Here is a simple suggestion on how this concept may work. Instead of tanks, huge nets could be attached to the bottom of the floating islands. Giving the size of the oceans, the fish should stay clean. However, for extra precaution, the islands could be moved around from on area to another
We can also do a better job managing our inland resources. By working with nature, we can take advantage of all the resources available. All it takes is a new plan to help wildlife flourish to the level where a sustainable culling could be put in place. In Canada, we have a huge forest. The first nation people can create thousands of jobs by taking care of this natural resource in a more creative way. All they have to do is help existing herds of animals grow larger. Currently, the harsh weather takes a heavy toll on all species. Though, by offering wild animals such as deer, a helping hand, we can harvest the best meat available on the planet. With water shortage and drought, with all the chemicals and the antibiotics that are added by factory farms to our food, putting wild natural meat on our
table would be a welcome development.
8. Use innovation to improve safety and efficiency in all modes of transportations.
Innovation in transportation is not only needed to create jobs, but it could also help solve all kinds of problems associated with safety and efficiency. Take oil for instance. No matter what mode or method used there is always the risk of spoilage. A more innovative way to transport oil inland would be in building a tube made of the same combination of material. For the sake of simplicity, we are going to call them smart tubes and smart pipes. Rather than using big tanks, big trucks and pipes, replace them with an automated system consisting of small tanks. Even if an accident occurs, the spoilage would be minimal. Repeat the same for shipping grain and all sorts of other commodities.
These smart tubes can also be indispensable in improving how cities and communities take care of water pipes and sewer systems. Among the many issues associated with all types of pipes we have at the present time happens to be rupture. As the soil and the earth tend to shift up and down, regardless of the materials they are made of, pipes tend to bend along every change. Eventually, they end up breaking or rupturing.
The new system I am proposing, will have hoses or rubbery pipes running freely inside the smart tubes. A fringe benefit of the new system would be in the ability of running organic pipes for water delivery. Not only would there be less use of chemicals such as chlorine, but the pipe or the hose itself would be made of natural products such as soya. This would be an important step in eliminating the harmful effects of chemicals associated with anything made of petro material. Replacing these pipes or hoses would be much easier as well. For instance, there will be no need for excavation.
Although, we have talked about automated cars for shipping flammable and dangerous materials, the smart tubing method could also work. It will not be as safe as the proposed self-driven cars, but nonetheless, it would be a significant improvement over what we have.
All these tubes could be built alongside railroads. And, if need be, on top of them. Ocean liners could also be replaced by these automated systems. These tubes can be laid over the oceans the same way the oceanways are designed. Needless to say, that as is the case with oceanways, hover crafts would be used to deal with the ocean waves. The ideal arrangement would be in having these tubes anchored to the oceanways. Employ a new innovative design to build safer and tougher ships. I will explain later on in details how this can be done.
While on the subject, these tubes and the hover crafts could also be deployed as an innovative method to reach remote areas in the harsh environment of countries like Canada and Russia or even in the arctic. We are talking about a terrain unlike any other on earth. Vast expanse covered with swamps, muskeg fields, lakes and rivers. Places where roads are impossible to build and boats cannot make it through even in the ideal weather conditions. In most cases, supplies can only be flown in. The only exception is that for a brief time during the harsh winter, ice road can be built making it possible for transport trucks to travel. But, we can do better. Just because all land vehicles have been running on some sort of wheels does not mean we should be forbidden from experimenting with new concepts. We must always remember that as humans, we could never find a perfect solution to any problem. These floating tubes may not be the perfect answer, however, they will work where boats and transport trucks have failed to deliver. Also, this new innovative methods of connecting pipes
9. Experiment with new concepts to secure safety against natural disasters.
Despite the progress made in science and technology, humans can still find themselves hopeless against the forces of nature. Think of hurricanes, cyclones, twisters and tornadoes. To this date, no country in the world has been able to tame these powerful waves of destruction that bring death to every place they strike. Previously, we talked about floating islands, we can now suggest floating barriers to stop or tame these beasts before they make land. These barriers would be made of floating tall structures that can be towed to the desired position. The material used in their construction would the same as proposed earlier: meaning a combination of rubber and solid material.
In module forms, they can be useful on land. Since it would be impossible to transport such large structure on land, the only alternative would be in shipping them in modules to be assembled at the assigned site. In extreme emergencies, modules can be even be flown in to protect any community facing destruction.
Modules as such could also be used to protect against flooding and volcanic eruptions. It will not be easy, but with ingenuity, planning and determination, these modules will be saving cities from floods and people from drowning. Along the banks of any raging river, these modules can be assembled and erected a lot faster and easier than using sandbags. Moreover, they will be a lot more effective and secure.
In the case of volcanic eruptions, the same modules would be dispatched and positioned around any threatened community. The only difference in this situation would be in adding fire resisting material to the structure.
There may be other uses. For instance the modules could be useful in fighting any wild forest fire that grows out of control of the fire fighters. As barriers, they would sever the supply of fuel to the fire and force it to die out.
10-Prepare now to handle the anticipated economic boom.
This is a perfect example of how catalysts work. As the economy improves and the need for more workers arises, many developed countries would have to allow more immigrants into their jurisdictions. Waiting until this new development occurs, would not be wise. With most of the western nations facing population shrinkage, they should be planning to help potential immigrants settle in and prepare them to adapt for the new environment long before the actual economic boom is to take place. This cannot be a bad idea, for not only are we facing a new climate of childless families, there is always a chance that the upcoming generations may not be able to handle the responsibility of raising children, even if they wanted to. The adage: use it or lose it can apply even for parenting. Once raising children stops to be part of the culture, it would very difficult to make a convincing for having them. The most efficient method would be in training potential migrants to adopt to our way of life wherever they are, be it Africa or Asia or any other region long before they are admitted into our countries. As these measures are implemented, thousands of new jobs would be created. As more people start to earn more income, the economic activities would be picking up everywhere, which means more jobs created in all sector of the economy. As the younger generation enjoys a higher income, they will be able to afford to live on their own and start their own families. This is in contrast to the present trend where we still hear of adults, some in their fifties staying with their parents.
Furthermore, on the other side of the equation, by virtue of remitting funds to their countries of birth, migrant workers will be making a huge contribution to the world economy. In that, they would be improving the economic conditions in their own countries and as a result creating millions of additional jobs.
CONCLUSION PART ONE
I am the first one to admit that my proposals are very drastic. However, even when one does not fully endorse them, they should be able to offer our political leaders a clear picture of the scale and magnitude required to create good paying jobs. Our goal as a movement is to revitalize the economy and revive the middle-class. We aim to see young people landing good jobs so they can afford to be on their own and raise families. At least, with economic growth we have a chance of preventing a sharp drop in the population – we may even see an increase in the birth rate. We need people to have a nation, the more citizens the stronger the nation.
